The Service Dispatcher plays a critical role in keeping the GMC service drive running efficiently. This position manages technician workflow, assigns repair orders, and coordinates with advisors and parts to ensure jobs move through the shop with minimal downtime. Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean or acceptable driving record
  • Ability to pass a standard background check
  • Strong reliability and consistent attendance
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn new systems

Nice To Haves

  • Previous service department or dispatcher experience preferred
  • Prior experience in a dealership service department, preferably with GM, who has a strong understanding of technician workflow and shop operations.
  • The right candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable making real-time decisions throughout the day.
  • Clear communication is key, as this role works closely with service advisors, technicians, and the parts department.
  • This position requires someone who can stay focused and effective in a fast-paced, structured environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily shop workflow by assigning repair orders based on technician skill level, certifications, job type, and workload
  • Monitor technician productivity, efficiency, and utilization throughout the day and adjust work as needed
  • Coordinate with the Parts department to confirm availability, manage backorders, and respond to ETA changes
  • Communicate job status, delays, and diagnostic needs to service advisors to support accurate customer expectations
  • Control cycle time by prioritizing waiters, same-day promises, and internal recon work
  • Identify workflow bottlenecks, technician overload, and potential quality concerns
  • Prepare the next day’s workload to ensure technicians can begin working immediately
