About The Position

This is a non-exempt staff position within the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) Program at Nation’s Finest. The Service Assistant role is primarily responsible for providing and documenting therapeutic services to veterans enrolled in the PSH program. This position works and collaborates with the entire VSSR Pilot Team that works within the PSH Project. This position may work at multiple locations within the service area.

Requirements

  • Be detail oriented, able to set priorities, able to meet client and organization deadlines in a fast-paced, and client centered environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to maintain a professional attitude and conduct at all times and model appropriate and professional behavior.
  • Able to set and maintain professional boundaries while adhering to agency policies and procedures.
  • Excellent inter-personal communication skills with the ability to interact with participants of varying ethnic, social or economic backgrounds. Knowledge of mental health issues, drug and alcohol addiction desired.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and be comfortable working with at-risk client populations.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient with: Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Excel, Outlook and email and internet use.
  • Clean background, valid California Driver’s license and clean DMV record required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with our homeless population is highly desired along with a knowledge of veteran at-risk issues.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience working in residential milieus with seniors and/or adults with disabilities, mental health or substance use issues required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for maintaining a calm, friendly and cooperative atmosphere within the program and with the participants to promote a clean, orderly and healthy environment at all times.
  • Assisting veterans with unit and laundry cleaning on a routine basis in order to maintain housing stability.
  • Transportation scheduling in collaboration with the assigned case manager
  • Appointment and medication reminders
  • Ability to connect residents to resources needed to ensure their ability to remain independently housed such as in-home support services.
  • Ability to work with on-site Case Management staff to ensure coordination-of-care.
  • Ability to establish strong working relationships with partner agencies to ensure connections are being made with residents that lead to the requested services.
  • Data entry into an online data tracking system for the agency
  • Use of email and other office equipment to ensure documentation of work is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the Pilot Supervisor or designee as appropriate.
  • Other tasks of daily living as needed or assigned.
