About The Position

John Knox Village features 7 individual dining outlets, including full-service restaurants like Places Restaurant, where this position is located. These outlets offer unique menus and styles of service, with many kitchens being 70-99% scratch made-to-order. All kitchens utilize prep and line cooks under the leadership of a chef. Servers in full-service restaurants earn a higher wage than typical retail servers and also receive gratuities. This part-time position involves providing service duties in a restaurant, dining room, and kitchen environment. Responsibilities include functioning as a host/hostess, setting up dining areas, taking and serving food orders, and cleaning and sanitizing dining areas. The role requires following instructions, carrying out assignments properly, and supporting the Village’s Mission, Values, and Service/Hospitality (PRIDE) Expectations, including completing required training hours.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age
High school diploma or GED
Obtain current Jackson County Food Handler Permit within 15 days of start date
Ability to work with a large group of residents/customers
Beginner level knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation
Awareness of cost control responsibilities of the position within the Department
Ability to work irregular hours
Ability to speak in simple sentences
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s
Ability to perform tasting and/or smelling
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straight-forward written or oral instructions

Responsibilities

Function as host/hostess
Set up and clean the assigned dining areas
Take food orders and relay them to the kitchen
Serve food
Clean and sanitize dining areas
Perform food preparation
Perform cashier responsibilities
Comply with dining services tip reporting policy
Observe residents and respond to additional needs
Handle stress well and maintain good relationships with colleagues and customers
Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct
Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements
Follow instructions and carry out assignments properly
Support the Village’s Mission, Values, and Service/Hospitality (PRIDE) Expectations
Complete training hours as required by policy
