The incumbent in this position provides structure and supervision to a population of up to twenty four youth in residence who are placed in emergency shelter care by self, parents or guardians, juvenile or family court or child welfare agencies. The Senior Youth Worker is an integral member of a team of adults whose mission is to provide a safe, healthy and beneficial environment for youth during the time spend at Shelter House, under the direction of the Residential Services Director. Incumbent is also responsible for food services, facility upkeep, data entry, light housekeeping, purchasing and inventory control.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • High School Diploma with two years of experience working with at-risk youth

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors degree preferred, experience working with youth in similar setting can substitute for degree

Responsibilities

  • Provides floor coverage in areas of the most need (adjustments to schedule as needed)
  • Completes weekly quality improvement checks for data entry and other compliance reports as assigned for program compliance, evaluation and improvement.
  • Collaborates with Case Managers, Residential Services Director, and others to provide input on staff meetings and training needs.
  • Remains in compliance with all requirements of regulatory agencies (tb test, cpr/first aid, 40 hours of professional development training, SCM, etc)
  • On call duties – proactive approach to assistance with shift coverage after exhausting all compromises and options
  • Uphold the mission of the YMCA, and demonstrate behaviors that reflect a determined, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and welcoming nature.
  • Assures safety and security of youth in cooperation with counselors and other youth workers.
  • Supervises residents at all times, completes nightly bed checks as needed.
  • Ensures shift required documentation is complete. (notes, med logs and audits, bed checks, chore sheets, etc)
  • Assists with training and shadowing for newer employees.
  • Conducts daily community and house meetings as needed.
  • Conference with case managers/directors and documents any significant behavioral issues and/or emotional needs of specific residents.
  • Completes required records and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Prioritizes and attends to the specific individual needs of residents.
  • Oversees and/or perform daily meal preparations, laundry, house jobs and clean-up.
  • Responds to Project Safe Place calls.
  • Accepts and completes any projects and assignment as required or agreed upon by Directors.
  • Schedules, coordinates, documents, and tracks educational and beneficial life skill sessions.
  • Ensures an environment that is conducive to the resolution of youth and family issues.
  • Welcomes new residents and facilitates their assimilation into the shelter.
  • Offers back-up and support to case managers in terms of responding to phone calls and conducting intakes when needed.
  • Attends meetings, training’s as requested by supervisor (40 hours annually).
  • Purchase, order, and monitor inventory of staple and non-staple items.
  • Transport youth to/from scheduled activities and school.
  • Active participation in Program Development Committee
  • Other duties as delegated by leadership team.
