About The Position

CNN Weather & Climate is seeking a digital-first senior writer to grow our coverage of the weather, space and the forces that shape our world. You’ll develop and write beautiful features across several platforms, create engaging on-demand videos, and work with our other experts to delight our audience with science and nature. This role is for a writer, reporter or other digital content creator who has expertise in space or science. The ideal candidate is deeply curious about how the universe works and skilled at translating complex scientific concepts into compelling, accessible storytelling that resonates. The successful candidate understands that space and Earth science are not niche topics — they are central to understanding life. They can move fluidly between breaking developments (a major solar flare, a spacecraft milestone, a rare celestial event) and durable, narrative-driven stories that build habit and anticipation even on calm weather days. This writer will collaborate closely with meteorologists, climate reporters, visual journalists and video producers to create distinctive, multi-platform storytelling. They will help establish CNN Weather as a destination not only for forecasts and extreme weather coverage, but for curiosity-driven exploration of the living planet and the space environment around it. Finally, this person must embody the CNN Weather & Climate team’s ethos — we are looking for a self-motivated, team-oriented collaborator who takes pride in their craft, values diverse perspectives and elevates colleagues.
