About The Position

CONTINGENT HIRE NOTICE: This position is a contingent hire. Employment is contingent upon EDJ Associates, Inc. receiving a contract/task order award from the National Science Foundation (NSF). This position is performed primarily on-site at NSF headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance. The Senior Writer / Project Manager provides advanced writing and editorial support while managing writing assignments and deliverables across multiple projects for the NSF Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA). This role combines senior-level writing expertise with project coordination responsibilities. EDJ Associates, Inc. is a Woman-Owned Small Business (WOSB) providing trusted communications, writing, digital, and program support services to federal agencies. EDJ supports nationally significant science and public engagement initiatives and offers a collaborative, mission-driven environment supporting the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; degree in journalism, communications, or a science-related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional writing and editing experience, including at least three (3) years writing about scientific or technical subjects.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies, scientific funders, or research-focused organizations.
  • Strong project coordination and workload management skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced federal environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Write and edit articles, white papers, fact sheets, blogs, press releases, and web content on NSF science and policy topics.
  • Translate complex scientific and technical concepts into plain language for non-expert audiences.
  • Manage writing assignments, priorities, schedules, and deliverables across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate with OLPA staff, scientists, and program officials to ensure accuracy and timeliness of content.
  • Ensure all written products comply with the Plain Writing Act of 2010 and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
