About The Position

CENTERPOINT ENERGY is involved in a companywide effort to efficiently centralize monitoring, assessment, and reporting of incidents, accidents, and significant events across the enterprise. The CenterPoint Energy Watch Office is responsible for maintaining awareness of all incidents or events that might have a significant impact on the company. The Watch Office assesses and regularly reassesses the scope and impact of incidents, keeps executive management informed, and recommends escalation if needed. This position will function as a Watch Officer. They will provide 24/7/365 real time reporting and coordination support to all CenterPoint Energy organizational units, facilities, and employees. Watch Officers will maintain strong situational awareness of internal and external factors (such as weather), planned events, and emergent incidents; receive initial reports of incidents, accidents, and emergencies from diverse sources; proactively develop, collect, and vet additional information; conduct an overall assessment of hazards, risks, and impacts; initiate or assist with the initiation of protective measures and mitigation strategies; ensure that appropriate notifications (and updates) are made to managers, executives, and regulators; escalate response and mitigation actions when needed; ensure that sufficient resources are assigned; assist with obtaining resources and coordinating logistics support; follow through, monitor, and report on ongoing incidents until they are resolved or complete; and create and maintain logs and records available for future reference or to respond to legal or regulatory inquiries.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience performing analysis, consulting, and providing recommendations.
  • Experience writing reports
  • Experience presenting critical information in writing.
  • Successful completion of functional testing

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Experience using office productivity tools to create and edit complex reports, graphs, and presentations, converting information from one format to another, using advanced functions, and generating non-standard reports from business applications and/or databases.
  • Experience working on cross functional teams.
  • Experience processing information and presenting pertinent details to senior management and executives.
  • Experience providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to liaise with local law enforcement and outside agencies.
  • Experience communicating, both orally and in a written format, to a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience as a watch officer or similar role in emergency operations centers, intelligence/fusion centers, public safety access points, or similar real time operations centers.
  • Specialized expertise in utility operations, science, engineering, emergency response, analysis (operations, intelligence, etc.) or a related field
  • Basic/Intermediate/Advanced Incident Command System certification.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to follow CenterPoint Energy safety protocols and safe work practices.
  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
  • Effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
  • Strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

Responsibilities
