About The Position

The Senior Vice President, Energy Strategy will lead QTS’s enterprise‑wide energy strategy, ensuring the company can scale reliably, competitively, and sustainably in a rapidly evolving energy and infrastructure landscape. This executive will be responsible for shaping and executing QTS’s long‑term energy strategy, including power sourcing, grid and utility engagement, sustainability and regulatory alignment, and risk management across a geographically distributed portfolio. This role will partner closely with Development, Investments, Operations, Technology, and External Affairs to ensure energy strategy is fully integrated into site selection, capital deployment, customer commitments, and long‑term growth plans across the United States and international markets.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Fifteen or more years of progressive experience in energy strategy, infrastructure, sustainability, regulatory affairs, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise‑level strategy in complex, regulated environments.
  • Proven ability to influence across functions and executive stakeholders in a high‑growth, capital‑intensive business.
  • Experience operating across multiple geographies and markets, including utility and regulatory engagement.
  • Executive‑level understanding of energy markets, power infrastructure, grid dynamics, and regulatory environments.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical and regulatory issues into clear business strategy.
  • Strong risk management mindset, with experience building governance, controls, and assurance frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross‑functional and matrixed teams at scale.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including evaluation of long‑term investment tradeoffs and risk scenarios.
  • Ability to operate effectively in periods of rapid growth, change, and uncertainty.
  • Track record of building durable teams, setting clear objectives, and driving accountability and results.
  • Strategic thinker with the execution discipline to deliver outcomes in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute QTS’s enterprise energy strategy, aligning power, sustainability, risk, and regulatory considerations with business growth objectives.
  • Lead strategic engagement with utilities, grid operators, regulators, policymakers, and external stakeholders to secure reliable, cost‑effective, and scalable power solutions.
  • Provide executive leadership for risk management ensuring alignment with internal standards, regulatory requirements, and investor expectations.
  • Oversee sustainability and energy‑related audit activities, including third‑party assurance, compliance readiness, and governance frameworks.
  • Partner with Development and Investments to ensure energy strategy is embedded in site selection, land acquisition, and project underwriting decisions.
  • Drive alignment between energy strategy, sustainability commitments, and customer requirements, including long‑term power availability and decarbonization objectives.
  • Anticipate and assess energy market dynamics, regulatory changes, and grid constraints, translating insights into actionable strategy and risk mitigation plans.
  • Develop and maintain enterprise energy metrics, dashboards, and reporting to track performance, risk exposure, and progress against strategic goals.
  • Deliver short‑, medium‑, and long‑term energy strategy recommendations to senior leadership, including trade‑offs, risk assessments, and capital implications.
  • Apply strong financial rigor and business acumen to evaluate energy investments, power procurement structures, and infrastructure partnerships.
  • Provide clear business rationale and risk analysis for proposed investments related to power, sustainability, and energy infrastructure.
  • Balance near‑term execution needs with long‑term energy resilience and scalability, ensuring QTS remains competitive in constrained power markets.
  • Lead, develop, and inspire high‑performing teams, including direct‑report and matrixed partners, in a complex, fast-moving environment.
  • Serve as a senior executive representative with customers, partners, and external stakeholders on energy strategy, sustainability, and risk topics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
