Performs preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on plant equipment and machinery as directed. What you need to know Salary: $24.11-$26.52/hr This position is located in College Station, TX. Remote/Work from alternate location is not available at this time.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and Experience Five years of experience in the maintenance of equipment such as industrial power boilers, steam and/or gas turbine driven generators, or industrial or commercial chilling equipment. Graduation from a Technical Trades School or Apprenticeship program in applicable field can be an equivalent on experience requirement
  • Valid Texas Class C Drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • Completion of TAMU training & development program for Senior Utilities Maintenance Technicians within 9 months of employment.
  • Forklift certification within 6 months of employment or when training next available through EH&S.
  • Failure to successfully complete any of the Senior Utilities Maintenance Technicians testing and/or training program may result in termination.
  • This position is security sensitive.
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules, and procedures.
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance- Performs preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and repair on various types of heavy equipment such as gas turbines, turbine/generators, industrial boilers, chillers and all associated equipment. Diagnoses malfunctions through root cause analysis, troubleshoots, and assists in making recommendations to avoid future failures. This may require driving a university vehicle to satellite plants.
  • Shaft Alignment- Performs shaft alignments, maintains and replaces bearings, lubricants, packing and mechanical seals. This may require driving a university vehicle to satellite plants.
  • Welding- Fits and welds steam piping, high pressure water piping and structural steel, brazes and solders connections. Cuts and shapes metal using gas or mechanical methods.
  • Vibration Analysis- Accurately acquires and records vibration information on large industrial chillers, pumps, turbines, generators, cooling tower fans, gear boxes and auxiliary support machinery. With input from the Master Utilities Maintenance Technician interprets vibration information and develops corrective action plans based on that information.
  • Crew Leader- Provides direction to the Utilities Maintenance Team in the field during absence of the Master Utilities Maintenance Technician.
  • Chemicals- Makes repairs to chemical storage, transfer and injection systems which include sulfuric acid, chlorine, biocides and caustic soda.
  • Housekeeping- Performs general housekeeping to ensure that the work site is kept clean. Ensures that all tools, ladders and containers/materials are properly stored between work days.
  • Rigging- Moves and lifts heavy loads using cranes, hoists, mobile cranes.
  • Work Scopes- Assists in the preparation of cost estimates, materials requisitions, and manpower requirements for large equipment. Locates spare/replacement parts through the maintenance and material management systems. Works with procurement to ensure that components are available for work to be performed. May be required to drive state vehicle to various locations on campus or in town.
  • Fuel Gas Delivery- Works closely with the Master and Senior Utilities Maintenance technicians to maintain the TAMU Fuel Gas Delivery System Management Plan and ensures that the requirements laid out in the plan are complied with. Participates in skill development initiatives as directed.
