About The Position

If you are a Technical Writing professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting role for you! As a Senior Technical Writing Lead, you will work with our Technical Communications team to develop and implement software user manuals, reference manuals, data sheets, and online help files. You will also be responsible for working with developers, validators, and product managers to understand product requirements and collaborate with other writers on the team to ensure consistency across all types of technical documentation. This position is based out of our Cranberry Township, PA office. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, or similar field, or relevant experience in lieu of education.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in the technical writing field, focusing on software products.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to adapt tone, structure, and level of detail for different audiences and use cases.
  • Hands-on experience using content management or authoring tools such as FrameMaker, MadCap, Paligo, or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word and Visio
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse, geographically dispersed team.
  • Self-motivation and a strong desire to learn new products, technologies, and tools—and to share that knowledge with others.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.

  • Experience in the power generation field is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain clear, user-focused technical documentation—including software user manuals, reference manuals, data sheets, and online help—from concept through completion.
  • Write and edit documentation using professional-grade grammar, spelling, and sentence/paragraph structure to ensure clarity, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Edit documents for grammar, spelling, format, style, controlled English, accuracy, and clarity, reducing ambiguity and improving ease of use.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and informal training to other writers on the team, supporting consistency and shared best practices
  • Apply formats in accordance with established style guides and controlled English standards when creating technical communication deliverables, including manuals, data sheets, online help, and related content.
  • Structure and organize technical content so that information flows logically, is easy to navigate, and supports different user needs.
  • Work collaboratively with developers, validators, product managers, subject matter experts (SMEs), and internal teams to gain a deep understanding of product features and documentation requirements.
  • Incorporate feedback from SMEs, peers, editors, and team leads to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and easy to understand.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects concurrently, effectively prioritizing tasks and using time wisely to meet agreed deadlines.
  • Organize and conduct meetings or interviews with engineers and other SMEs, both locally and internationally, to gather the information needed for documentation.
  • Work independently in lab or test environments, and leverage existing information on internal sites, external user communities, and professional forums to supplement documentation.
  • Use content management and authoring tools such as FrameMaker, MadCap, Paligo, or similar, along with Microsoft Office applications (including Word, Visio, and Excel) to create and maintain content
  • Quickly grasp complex technical concepts and translate them into clear, concise text and visuals, breaking down complex topics into understandable documentation objects.
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in project meetings or conference calls to discuss documentation status, issues, and questions.
  • Participate in assigned training to develop and enhance technical writing and tool-related skills.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance documentation clarity, accessibility, and overall user experience.
