Senior Technical Writer
About The Position
Imagine a piloted air taxi that takes off vertically, then quietly carries you and your fellow passengers over the congested city streets below, enabling you to spend more time with the people and places that matter most. At Joby, we've been working to make that dream a reality since 2009 and we're now in the final stages of certifying our aircraft with the FAA. With plans to launch our aircraft in the US and Dubai, we're now scaling manufacturing and preparing for the launch of our commercial service. Overview As a Technical Writer, you will be part of a fast scaling Technical Publications team responsible for the quality, clarity, and accuracy of the documentation for the technologies related to an aircraft product. You will execute multiple review processes for certification documents, assist SMEs in writing content, and provide ad hoc editorial and authoring tools expertise to writers across Joby. You will update, enhance, and reorganize existing documents. You will also assist in defining and improving documentation standards and processes. Please note that this is a technical writing position and not a UX writing position.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Communication, or equivalent discipline and 7+ yrs experience as demonstrated by a portfolio
- Self-motivated and energetic
- Fast and curious learner who enjoys picking up new technology
- Experience gathering and analyzing information from diverse and busy SMEs
- Intense attention to detail
- Ability to work across silos and ask good questions to tease out detail and nuance
- Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite
Nice To Haves
- Experience as a technical editor, or peer editing other writers’ documents
- Experience with diagraming tools such as draw.io, Visio, or LucidChart
- Previous work in a highly regulated industry such as aerospace or pharmaceutical
- Experience writing long-form technical documents
- Experience envisioning, defining, and codifying documentation processes
- Knowledge of the aerospace industry
- MS Word expertise
- Github and Python experience
Responsibilities
- You will do hands-on research and obtain necessary technical content from subject matter experts while translating it into clear, concise, structured documentation.
- This task will range from the creation of original content to the editorial review and rework of content as required as it evolves.
