About The Position

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to customers in the intelligence and national security communities, focusing on protecting national security. KBR is seeking a highly experienced technical professional to support a U.S. Government program office executing a fast-paced acquisition effort to field next-generation ground-launched counter-air capabilities. This program aims to accelerate advanced air defense solutions from prototype through operational deployment to address emerging long-range aerial threats. In this role, the specialist will provide independent technical evaluation and program support to Government leadership, assessing contractor designs, identifying technical risks, researching relevant technologies and comparable systems, and informing key decisions across the ground segment, including launch systems, support equipment, site integration, and sustainment. Candidates may be considered at the Senior or SME level based on experience and technical depth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in missile systems, air defense systems, or closely related domains
  • Hands-on experience with ground-segment elements such as launch systems, ground support equipment, system integration, fielding, sustainment, or operational deployment
  • Experience supporting system integration, test, fielding, or operational evaluation of complex defense systems
  • Ability to independently assess technical issues, identify risks, and provide actionable recommendations in support of Government decision-making
  • Strong understanding of system interfaces, system safety, and developmental and operational testing
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to brief technical findings to Government and military stakeholders
  • Active DoD Secret clearance required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting ground-based air defense or missile programs (e.g., Patriot, NASAMS, or similar systems)
  • Background supporting activities at Eglin Air Force Base, White Sands Missile Range, or similar test locations
  • Familiarity with deployment logistics, mobility, survivability, and expeditionary basing concepts
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering, or open system architectures
  • Experience reviewing modeling and simulation used to assess system performance and inform design decisions
  • Prior experience supporting a Government program office or acquisition organization

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key technical resource for ground-segment elements of ground-launched counter-air systems, including launchers, ground support equipment, power systems, site infrastructure, and integration.
  • Evaluate contractor system designs, interface definitions, integration approaches, and verification plans; provide clear, actionable technical recommendations to Government program leadership.
  • Assess system interfaces and Interface Control Documents (ICDs), ensuring alignment between subsystem designs and system-level requirements.
  • Support and participate in technical reviews, ensuring ground systems meet performance, safety, integration, and operational requirements.
  • Research comparable ground-launched missile, air defense, and launcher systems across the Department of War and industry to identify relevant technologies, integration approaches, test strategies, operational concepts, and lessons learned applicable to the program.
  • Assess deployment and operational considerations, including site surveys, launcher emplacement, mobility, survivability, and power/data integration.
  • Evaluate launcher survivability, including mobility, signature management, and operation in contested environments.
  • Assess reload, re-arm, and sustainment concepts, including logistics footprint and operational tempo considerations.
  • Contribute to development and execution of test strategies, including ground testing, system integration events, and live-fire launch demonstrations.
  • Assess adequacy of verification and validation approaches, including traceability to system requirements.
  • Identify and assess technical risks related to ground systems; recommend mitigation strategies aligned with program schedule and fielding objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with system safety and ordnance handling requirements for ground operations.
  • Support rapid fielding activities, including transition from development to operational units.
  • Assess interoperability with joint and coalition systems, including integration with external sensors and command networks.
  • Collaborate closely with broader team members to ensure end-to-end system performance across the kill chain.
