Senior Technical Program Manager, Amazon Redshift
About The Position
Join the Amazon Redshift team, building the world's most popular cloud data warehousing service. Amazon Redshift is a leading, fully managed, petabyte-scale data warehouse in the cloud, simplifying cost-effective data analysis. As a Senior Technical Program Manager, you will drive programs across all Redshift teams related to releases, customers, tooling, operations, and infrastructure. Your role will involve improving developer productivity, ensuring quality and security, streamlining builds and deployments, and spearheading organizational best practices. You will also enable automation of critical operational functions for thousands of servers globally. This position requires collaboration with engineering teams to deliver efficient solutions, making strong business cases for project prioritization, assessing risks, anticipating bottlenecks, and balancing business needs with technical constraints. This is a unique opportunity to work on a disruptive product in its early stages, solve challenging problems in cloud database computing, leverage cloud scale resources, and enable digital transformation for thousands of customers in an exciting startup environment.
Requirements
- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
Nice To Haves
- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
Responsibilities
- Drive programs for various components and deployment of Redshift releases
- Drive programs related to Redshift customer management
- Drive programs related to Redshift development, quality improvement, release management and operations
- Clarify, prioritize and drive project commitments as well as establish and maintain clear chains of accountability
- Articulate program goals, desired outcomes, risks and mitigation plan clearly
- Work closely with project stakeholders to understand their schedule, cost, functionality, and quality requirements
- Assist engineering team managers in building accurate development schedules that account for cross-team dependencies and minimize delays
- Maintain and communicate the master cross-team project schedule. Collect, analyze, and report metrics that clearly and accurately reflect progress against planned goals and deliverables
- Ensure that schedule changes are tracked and communicated efficiently to the right people at the right cadence using regular weekly status reports, daily updates during critical periods, etc.
- Lead retrospectives that maximize learning and ensure that appropriate improvements are incorporated into our development processes.
