About The Position

The Senior Analyst, Indirect Tax plays a key role in supporting the State & Local Tax team across compliance, analytics, tax technology, and operational initiatives. This role is ideal for a professional who understands indirect tax compliance but is also comfortable going beyond routine filings to support tax research, audits, automation, cross-functional projects, and continuous process improvements. The Senior Analyst will collaborate with business partners across Finance, IT, Operations, and Tax, helping ensure accurate tax treatment, system readiness, and effective governance of indirect tax processes.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of U.S. sales & use tax compliance or indirect tax operations experience (in-house or public accounting).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret tax rules and present recommendations.
  • Effective communicator capable of translating tax concepts for both tax and non-tax stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Strong Excel skills required; Access or Alteryx experience is a plus.
  • Must be collaborative and able to work effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle or Workday is preferred.
  • Experience with a tax engine such as OneSource (Sabrix), Vertex, or Avalara is a plus.
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power Automate) or AI-assisted analytics is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of property tax compliance or asset-based filings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the preparation and review of state and local sales, use, property, and telecommunications tax returns by gathering, analyzing, and validating data.
  • Provide oversight for returns prepared by tax analysts, assisting with questions and ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Research state and local tax statutes, regulations, rulings, and local ordinances to determine proper taxability and support business decisions.
  • Respond to jurisdictional notices with well-supported research and clear communication of status and required actions.
  • Contribute to indirect tax special projects, including automation, data efficiency initiatives, new system implementations, process documentation, and internal controls enhancements.
  • Develop a strong understanding of business processes and apply that knowledge to indirect tax risk assessments and recommendations.
  • Assist with administration and configuration of OneSource (Sabrix) including rate updates, product/service taxability mapping, exemption certificate maintenance, and other system changes.
  • Support indirect tax audits and controversy matters by preparing data, researching issues, and drafting responses.
  • Assist with indirect tax account reconciliations, monthly close inquiries, and tax-related balance sheet analysis.
  • Support the end‑to-end property tax compliance process by preparing and filing annual reports and property tax returns, collecting, and validating fixed asset data for annual renditions, and monitoring assessment notices to analyze year‑over-year changes and assist with appeal packages when appropriate. Maintain property tax calendars, coordinate payments, and track savings opportunities related to abatements, exemptions, and negotiated assessments.
  • Leverage AI-enabled tools to improve data quality, automate manual processes, and enhance analytics within indirect tax workflows.
