About The Position

The Senior Tax Analyst serves as a subject matter expert within the International Tax Team, leveraging advanced accounting skills and SAP proficiency to drive accurate and efficient tax compliance across global operations. This role is responsible for preparing and analyzing complex tax computations, supporting US and international tax provision calculations, and ensuring the integrity of intercompany transactions and transfer pricing studies. The Senior Tax Analyst collaborates closely with Finance and Accounting teams to organize financial data, facilitate strategic tax planning, and respond to audit inquiries from both domestic and foreign authorities. The position requires independent judgment, creative problem-solving, and the ability to mentor junior staff, while maintaining high standards of accuracy and compliance in all deliverables. This is a full-time role, Monday through Friday, with an expectation of 2- 3 in-office days per week and additional on-site presence as needed. The individual must reside in the San Diego area and be able to commute to our corporate offices.

Requirements

  • Typically requires 5 years of related accounting or income tax experience, preferably in large corporate or Big 4 environments; SAP working knowledge strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA license or Master of Science in Taxation (MST) is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in SAP and financial statement analysis.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and data analytics tools.
  • Experience with other ERP systems (Oracle, Workday) is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex tax concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to quickly adapt to new projects and develop creative solutions.
  • Strong collaborative skills and ability to build trusted advisor relationships with internal business partners.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA license or Master of Science in Taxation (MST) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the extraction and organization of financial and accounting data from SAP for annual Federal tax return computations, including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, Foreign Tax Credit, and other Federal activities.
  • Prepare general ledger data for quarterly and annual international tax calculations, including transfer pricing adjustments and intercompany recharges.
  • Oversee transfer pricing study preparations and OECD-related CBC reporting.
  • Collaborate with Illumina’s accounting team to accurately capture intercompany transactions in SAP.
  • Execute steps in strategic tax planning projects, including check-the-box elections and withholding taxes.
  • Advocate for tax initiatives within Finance and Accounting teams.
  • Support research and response to IRS and foreign country audit requests.
  • Develop and maintain cross-departmental relationships to foster planning and efficiency.
  • Identify and implement process improvements within the tax function.
  • Mentor junior staff and provide guidance as needed.
  • Deliver customer-ready presentations and documentation; managerial edits serve to enhance value.
