OVERVIEW Full-time/Permanent Employee Location: Hollywood, MD Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Systems Administrator with demonstrated leadership capabilities and CIO-level responsibilities to support our DoD programs. This role requires a hands-on technical expert who can also provide strategic IT leadership, ensure compliance with government regulations, and guide the organization’s IT direction in a classified and regulated environment. The proposed salary range for this position is $100,000 - $175,000. There are a host of factors that can influence final salary including, but not limited to, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, geographic location, education, and certifications.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field and 15+ years of progressive IT experience, including senior systems administration and leadership roles.
  • Equivalent combination of education, certifications, and extensive experience.
  • Extensive experience supporting DoD or federal government contracting environments
  • Strong expertise in Windows and Linux server environments, Active Directory, Group Policy, virtualization, and storage
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and compliance (RMF, NIST 800-53, CMMC)
  • Experience managing IT in classified environments
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, ITIL, MCSE, or VMware
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-entity organizations

Responsibilities

  • Provide CIO-level leadership, including IT strategy, planning, budgeting input, and technology roadmaps
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure on-prem and hybrid environments supporting classified and unclassified DoD systems
  • Ensure compliance with DoD, NIST, RMF, CMMC, DFARS, and cybersecurity requirements
  • Oversee system hardening, patching, vulnerability management, and incident response
  • Support classified systems, including air-gapped environments, secure facilities, and audit readiness
  • Establish, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Manage vendor relationships, licensing, and third-party service providers
  • Coordinate closely with program management, security, compliance, and executive leadership
  • Act as an escalation point for complex technical issues and mission-critical outages
  • Oversee and manage the Managed Service Provider (MSP), ensuring service levels, security requirements, and contractual obligations are met while aligning MSP performance with DoD compliance and organizational IT strategy.
