About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator – Virtualization to design, deploy, and maintain the organization’s virtual infrastructure. This role ensures the high availability, performance, and security of virtualized workloads supporting mission‑critical applications across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in VMware, Hyper‑V, automation, and enterprise‑grade virtualization operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology or a related field, and 8 years of experience.
  • 4 years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • 5 years of hands‑on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware ESXi, vSphere, Hyper-V).
  • Strong understanding of virtual networking, storage integration, and host‑level security.
  • DoD 8140 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+).
  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Nice To Haves

  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure/Hyper‑V.
  • Experience with cloud integration (Azure, AWS, or hybrid environments).
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, PowerCLI).

Responsibilities

  • Virtual Infrastructure Engineering & Administration Design, implement, and manage enterprise virtualization platforms including VMware ESXi, vSphere, and Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Administer and optimize virtual servers, clusters, and host resources to ensure high availability, performance, and scalability.
  • Lead virtual infrastructure upgrades, patches, and lifecycle management following established change management practices.
  • Automate VM deployment, snapshots, reporting, and routine operational tasks using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or similar tools.
  • Drive standardization and automation across virtualization workflows and management tools (e.g., PowerCLI, System Center Virtual Machine Manager).
  • Monitor resource utilization, performance, and capacity using tools such as vCenter, Hyper-V Manager, System Center, PRTG, or SolarWinds.
  • Identify bottlenecks, optimize resource allocation, and proactively improve platform reliability.
  • Implement and maintain backup, replication, and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized workloads.
  • Ensure recovery readiness and alignment with organizational RPO/RTO requirements.
  • Collaborate with storage, networking, and security teams to ensure integrated, secure, and high-performing virtual environments.
  • Support SAN/NAS storage integration, VLAN/network segmentation, and virtual networking configurations.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation, runbooks, diagrams, and recovery procedures.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex virtualization issues and mentor junior administrators.
