A Senior VMware vSphere Administrator is responsible for architecting, deploying, securing, and optimizing enterprise virtualization environments. This role supports mission-critical systems, ensures high availability, and leads modernization initiatives across VMware, storage, compute, and hybrid-cloud integrations.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience administering VMware vSphere environments in enterprise settings.
  • Strong expertise with ESXi, vCenter, DRS/HA, vMotion, VMFS, and virtual networking concepts.
  • Experience with VMware Updates Manager/Lifecycle Manager.
  • Experience with Ansible, OpenShift Virtualization, and Kubernetes
  • Skilled in scripting/automation with PowerCLI or PowerShell.
  • Strong understanding of SAN, NAS, iSCSI, and storage architecture.
  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux server administration.
  • Knowledge of security hardening standards (STIGs, CIS benchmarks, or equivalents).
  • Ability to lead complex projects and work independently in a senior/SME role.
  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and architecture planning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and lead senior-level technical discussions.

Nice To Haves

  • VMware certifications (VCP-DCV, VCAP, or VCIX).
  • Experience with Aria Automation Orchestration
  • Experience in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure, VMware Cloud).
  • Experience with Ansible, Terraform, or CI/CD automation pipelines
  • Background in enterprise backup tools (Veeam, Commvault, Rubrik, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain VMware vSphere environments, including ESXi hosts, vCenter Server, clusters, and virtual networking.
  • Lead capacity planning, performance tuning, and lifecycle management for VMware infrastructure.
  • Implement and manage VMware technologies such as VMware Aria Suite/vSphere Foundation (as applicable)
  • Ensure platform reliability through proactive monitoring, patching, upgrades, and configuration hardening.
  • Develop and maintain automation workflows using PowerCLI, PowerShell, or similar tooling.
  • Support disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity strategies using SRM or related solutions.
  • Integrate virtualization platforms with storage arrays, backup systems, and enterprise security controls.
  • Troubleshoot complex virtualization, compute, and storage issues across multi-site environments.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and architecture guidance to engineering and operations teams.
  • Produce documentation, diagrams, SOPs, and change-controlled configuration updates.
