Job Summary: Salas O’Brien Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary design firm in Bloomfield, CT. The qualified applicant will have the opportunity to engage in all phases of a project from inception to completion of construction.  This involvement is intended to grow individuals and nurture design talents. This role will include building and managing relationships with in-house teams and contractors while providing design and consulting services that are needed by architects, facility managers and owners. The types of projects that will be worked on include: Higher Education, Healthcare Facilities, Advance Manufacturing Facilities, Research & Science, Parking Facilities, K-12 Educational, Sports Facilities, Infrastructure Facilities, Destination Facilities, New Buildings & Additions and Complex Renovations

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering
  • 7 - 10 years of experience related to the design of structural systems for buildings, additions, renovations, and infrastructure projects
  • CT PE license or ability to obtain license is required
  • Ability to manage multiple projects from concept stage through construction in a fast-paced environment with challenging deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Building Codes
  • Proficient knowledge with computers and computer software (MS Office, RAM TEKLA, Bluebeam, etc.)

Nice To Haves

  • Master of Science in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • Experience with Revit preferred

Responsibilities

  • Listen to our clients’ needs and independently provide value to our clients by evaluating options based upon their needs and desires.
  • Communicate your design recommendations to our clients, project team, construction contractors and vendors in presentations, meetings, via email and phone as necessary.
  • Work alone on projects, or work on project team with other technical staff to design and detail the new structural systems that are needed, assuring that the work is accurate and coordinated, and that the quality assurance measures have been followed.
  • Provide timely services that meet the needs of the clients and the overall project schedule requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with our existing clients so that they think of our firm when services our needed.
  • Aid in the pursuit of projects for new and existing clients by assisting the lead engineer in conducting presentations and writing proposals.  
  • Provide the technical assessment of potential project opportunities to aide in project go/no-go decisions.
  • Assist the work of other engineers and designers as a Project Engineer to generate project deliverables.
  • Perform structural analysis and design calculation following office structural design standards.
  • Stay abreast of new design and analysis technologies and building materials through continuing education activities.
