Senior Structural Engineer

GrowTech Industries, LLCGoodyear, AZ

About The Position

GTI designs, engineers, and manufactures complex modular systems supporting energy storage, power generation, modular data center infrastructure, defense, and industrial markets. Operating in a high-mix, engineered-to-order manufacturing environment, GTI delivers steel enclosures, integrated platforms, and mission-critical modular systems. Our structural engineering team designs container-scale modular structural systems built entirely from structural steel. Every design decision directly impacts manufacturability, fabrication sequencing, and structural performance in the field. The Senior Structural Engineer is the top individual contributor on the structural engineering team and the primary technical resource for complex structural analysis, connection design, and documentation. This role owns the most technically demanding structural scopes, sets the quality standard for structural deliverables, and works closely with the Technical Director to develop structural systems engineered for both performance and manufacturability. A Professional Engineer (PE) license is strongly preferred, as this role may be responsible for stamping and sealing structural calculations and drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline
  • 10–15 years of structural engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in structural steel design
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; EIT candidates actively pursuing licensure will be considered
  • Deep expertise in structural steel design including members, frames, and connection systems
  • Experience designing welded connections including fillet, groove, and partial penetration welds
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code — Steel
  • Experience designing bolted connections including ASTM A325/A490 high-strength bolts, bearing connections, and slip-critical connections
  • Proficiency using RISA (2D/3D) or similar structural analysis tools
  • Proficiency using AutoCAD for structural detailing and drawing production
  • Strong knowledge of AISC 360, ASCE 7, and IBC

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting structural steel fabrication in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with modular, prefabricated, or containerized structural systems
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks or similar 3D modeling tools used in steel fabrication environments
  • Experience reviewing fabrication shop drawings and supporting QA/QC processes within steel fabrication operations

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex structural analysis of all-steel modular systems including frames, panels, and connection assemblies
  • Produce and own structural calculation packages for projects of significant scope and complexity
  • Perform member sizing, load path analysis, and lateral system design in accordance with AISC and ASCE 7
  • Design welded and bolted structural connections compliant with AWS D1.1 and AISC standards
  • Design mechanical fastener connections including bolt patterns, bearing checks, and shear/tension interaction
  • Review and perform quality control on calculations and connection designs developed by mid-level and junior engineers
  • Stamp and seal structural calculations and drawings where PE licensure applies
  • Develop complete structural drawing packages using AutoCAD including plans, elevations, sections, connection details, and weld schedules
  • Produce connection details that are manufacturable on the shop floor, considering weld access, fit-up tolerances, and fabrication sequencing
  • Collaborate closely with fabrication teams to ensure designs are production-ready and aligned with internal manufacturing capabilities
  • Review shop drawings and support QA/QC processes through design validation and production feedback
  • Ensure structural documentation packages are coordinated, accurate, and fabrication-ready
  • Serve as the primary technical resource and mentor for the structural engineering team
  • Participate in internal design reviews and provide guidance on structural analysis and connection design
  • Partner with the Technical Director on complex structural challenges and new modular system development
  • Contribute to internal structural engineering standards, connection libraries, and design guides
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and structural detailing practices
