About The Position

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Strategist, Cybersecurity Policy and Diplomacy as part of its Customer, Security and Trust organization to advance cyber and AI security within Microsoft and across the online environment. The Cybersecurity Policy and Diplomacy team’s mission is to work with governments, the private sector, and civil society to advocate for and implement policies aimed at achieving a more secure cyberspace, both domestically and at the international level. In this role will shape cybersecurity policy and guide digital diplomacy approaches, in particular related to cyber norms and cyber war, by collaborating with colleagues around the world, as well as external industry partners and other stakeholders across the globe. This includes representing Microsoft in relevant industry associations, external events, and direct engagements. You should possess exceptional interpersonal skills, deep expertise across cybersecurity, cyber norms and diplomacy, as well as artificial intelligence (AI) policy and substantial experience in government affairs with established stakeholder networks. Demonstrated familiarity with the broader cyber norms and AI ecosystem, including regulatory frameworks, and emerging technologies, is highly valued, enabling the candidate to proactively shape policy recommendations, positively influence diplomatic dialogues/negotiations, and identify and seize strategic opportunities for Microsoft. Moreover, demonstrated ability to conceptually engage with and promote responsible behaviour in cyberspace across all stakeholder groups is particularly valued. The successful candidate must be able to distill and communicate complex technical and policy matters related to cybersecurity, diplomacy and AI to a variety of audiences, ranging from policymakers to industry leaders. A strong academic or professional foundation in government affairs, diplomacy, cybersecurity, AI, and/or political science is essential, ensuring the candidate can navigate and positively influence the rapidly evolving AI and cybersecurity landscapes. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Business Administration, Technology, Law, Liberal Arts, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years work experiencein the private sector, government, or academia or related area
• OR equivalent experience.

• Proven track record engaging with government officials, political and corporate stakeholders.
• Understanding of geopolitics as well as the wider cyber norms landscape to help inform policy considerations and opportunities for the company, coupled with a proven track record of supporting the concept of meaningful multistakeholder diplomacy.
• Demonstrated ability to discuss and advance complex technical and policy concepts with diverse stakeholders at various levels.
• Demonstrated ability to drive impactful campaigns to address complex challenges, individually and as part of a wider, matrixed team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and engage on behalf of Microsoft on cybersecurity policy and digital diplomacy initiatives consistent with Microsoft principles and practices.
• Advocate for relevant policy issues and develop, drive and positively impact campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders and global government affairs colleagues on priority issues, strategies, and/or programs.
• Participate in internal/external events and supports executive engagements in Redmond and as needed globally.
• Represent Microsoft on cybersecurity policy and diplomacy initiatives in industry fora and public private partnerships and multistakeholder engagements, advocating for responsible behavior in cyberspace.
• Proactively build and maintain a strong and impactful cyber stakeholder network to better inform and execute Microsoft's objectives in priority areas and position the company as key partner for global policymakers.
• Help assess and create internal awareness of key cybersecurity policy and diplomacy initiatives and their implications for Microsoft.
