About The Position

Saab, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Manufacturing Engineer who is interested in further developing expertise in manufacturing technology. The Manufacturing Engineering function is responsible for all production technical work related to assembly and installation, including process calculation, production preparation, development of process documentation, and verification. This role is also accountable for manufacturing engineering development, manufacturing techniques, and supporting the qualification of new products in accordance with both Saab and customer requirements. The Manufacturing Engineer will serve as a key link between the design engineering team and the production team in Syracuse, NY. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, or a Master’s Degree with 6+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or formal training in new product development, prototype development, and early-stage manufacturing processes.
  • Experience or formal training in Factory Physics and/or Lean Manufacturing.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives with exposure to Six Sigma tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to work an extended or flexible schedule to support business needs.
  • Experience with Manufacturing ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze existing and/or revised technical data packages from an assembly and test perspective to develop, produce, and sustain manufacturing processes in a brownfield-like environment, including assembly instructions, manufacturing routers, assembly aids, fixtures, and tooling, manufacturing work cells and flow lines, and workspace requirements from a material flow, visual management, and bottleneck analysis perspective.
  • Contribute to the development of production systems and working methods, influencing design work to achieve efficient, low-cost manufacturing without compromising function and quality.
  • Support the development of new technical solutions and efficient production systems and assembly lines based on Lean principles.
  • Assist in the implementation of Tiered Meeting Architecture, 5S, and idea systems.
  • Actively engage with assemblers, technicians, and inspectors to improve value-added processes and workplace organization.
  • Develop and implement factory layouts and production flow in coordination with existing facilities and capital expansion plans.

  • Assist in developing basis of estimates for manufacturing activities in support of proposals.
