About The Position

daydream is developing the world's leading SEO agent, complemented by top human experts, to manage organic search comprehensively for customers, eliminating the need for specialized teams, tool evaluations, or agency management. The company addresses the challenge of producing expert-level content at scale and continuously adapting to changes in ranking systems and user behavior, which existing tools and agencies struggle with. daydream replaces fragmented tools and external vendors with a unified system that continuously plans and executes SEO. The SEO agent handles analysis, planning, and generation, while experienced Growth Leads convert this work into shipped pages, technical fixes, and updated priorities, maintaining accountability for performance. The company has secured over $20M in funding from prominent investors and is supported by growth leaders from major tech companies. As a Staff Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across the product while remaining deeply hands-on. You will collaborate closely with the CTO to define system architecture, guide execution, and elevate engineering quality. This is a non-people-management role, where leadership is demonstrated through design decisions, code quality, and consistent delivery of scalable systems.

Requirements

  • Significant experience building and operating production software systems
  • Strong engineering judgment and comfort with making architectural tradeoffs
  • Experience owning systems end-to-end, from design through long-term maintenance
  • Ability to lead through influence, code, and technical decision-making rather than people management

  • Experience in a Staff or Senior Engineer role at a high-growth company
  • Background in building distributed systems or complex backend platforms
  • Familiarity with AI-enabled or data-intensive systems

Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead for day-to-day engineering execution across the team
  • Partner with the CTO to organize, prioritize, and sequence engineering work
  • Design and evolve core system architecture, guiding implementation decisions
  • Review pull requests and set standards for code quality, reliability, and maintainability
  • Identify technical risks early and propose pragmatic, scalable solutions
  • Mentor engineers through technical guidance, feedback, and example
  • Improve engineering workflows to increase speed without sacrificing quality
  • Work primarily across backend systems, data pipelines, and AI-enabled services, using Python, TypeScript, and C#, deployed on Google Cloud
