About The Position

The Senior Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design, provides technical leadership in mechanical design and engineering across multiple demanding industries, including medical device, aerospace and defense, and industrial equipment. They have extensive experience in product design, developing products from concept to commercialization. They develop mechanical concepts and create system solutions using solid modeling and simulation software. They lead technical project teams to deliver for Celestica’s engineering service customers.

Requirements

  • Project Management - Ability to lead complex, multiple line engineering projects across multiple domains. Demonstrate solid understanding of the technical, financial and relational aspects of the project. Able to create a change management plan and ensure the project is delivered within the assigned time and budget. Ability to recognize project barriers and develop mitigation plans
  • Leadership - Demonstrate good leadership skills by improving any team they join by the way they serve. Communicating complex and difficult topics as they occur. Coaching and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Customer Engagement - able to navigate customer dynamics in projects, in partnership with key internal stakeholders, in situations where customer needs may be ambiguous or not yet fully formed
  • Financial Acumen / Business Planning - Ability to understand financial plans for your projects, aligning them internally with management, peers, and externally. Create project plans, risk and sensitivity analysis, able to recognize barriers and mitigate profitability risks. Fully knowledgeable about internal and external financial impact of design decisions.
  • Mechanical Design: Solid Modeling, FEA, Tolerance Analysis, Mechanical Assembly, Plastic Injection Molding, Basic Machining, Electro-mechanical design, PCBA integration, Material selection
  • Analysis and Simulation: Thermal & Structural Analysis and Modelling, Fluid flow (CFD), FEA
  • Hands On: Able to assemble & test prototypes. Use hand & power tools for assembly or disassembly. Experience in metrology equipment (caliper, micrometer, etc)
  • CAD: Proficient in solid modeling software, Industrial Design, Tolerance Analysis, Componet & Assembly print creation
  • Verification & Validation: Test specifications and plans, Prototyping, IQ/OQ/PQ, Root cause analysis(8D, 5 whys, Fishbone, etc)
  • Design for Excellence (DFx): DFMEA, DFM, Risk Analysis, Product Cost Management, GD&T
  • Minimum 11 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a highly regulated industry a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader for major projects. They lead the design, development and implementation of technical solutions for complex projects, involving multiple domains. A subject matter expert (SME) in their domain, recognized throughout the global engineering network
  • Support quote/proposal development by working closely with project management to accurately estimate effort, time, and risk associated with a scope of work
  • Review and interpret customer inputs and specifications, translating them to product requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain) to ensure design feasibility, manufacturability, and quality.
  • Conduct detailed design engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, vibration, and tolerance analysis
  • Support new product introductions (NPI) with site manufacturing teams. Ensure technical information hand off and support troubleshooting of first production builds.
  • Clearly communicate complex technical subjects with customers and within Celestica
  • Analyze risk trade-offs in complex systems and recommend mitigations and solutions
  • Lead the deployment of strategic programs and coordinate global deployment efforts
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Mentor and guide junior and mid-level mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
