About The Position

Terraphase Engineering is seeking a Mid-Level Geologist, Environmental Scientist, or Engineer with approximately 3 to 5 years of experience to join our team in our Connecticut office. This position supports a growing workload in site assessment, investigation, remediation, hazardous building materials surveys, and environmental regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Approximately 3 to 5 plus years of environmental consulting experience
  • Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team
  • Self-sufficient and able to manage deadlines and competing priorities
  • Comfortable overseeing subcontractors during field activities
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Able to work outdoors for extended periods of time and travel as needed
  • Confident working at environmentally impacted sites with a proactive safety mindset

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with GIS or drafting software preferred
  • OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER certification
  • CPR and First Aid training
  • Connecticut Asbestos and Lead Inspector licenses
  • Interest in progression toward Project Manager responsibilities, PEP, and/or LEP track

Responsibilities

  • Perform and expand upon standard field sampling techniques for environmental media including soil and unconsolidated deposits, bedrock, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, sediment, and waste.
  • Document and record field data and observations clearly and concisely.
  • Direct and oversee the advancement of soil borings and the installation of groundwater monitoring wells by subcontracted drillers.
  • Serve as field task lead implementing investigation and remediation work plans.
  • Conduct Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Perform hazardous building materials assessments including asbestos and lead-based paint surveys.
  • Support environmental permitting and Connecticut Transfer Act projects.
  • Implement project kick off tasks including preparation of project plans, permit applications, subcontractor agreements, site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), and other project documentation.
  • Oversee and direct subcontractors including drillers, laboratories, and construction personnel.
  • Mentor junior staff on field methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze, evaluate, interpret, and present hydrogeologic and chemical data.
  • Prepare draft technical reports for review by project managers and principals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to safe work practices and lead by example in the field in accordance with HASPs, training, and applicable regulations.
  • Maintain working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations related to investigation, remediation, compliance, and due diligence.
