About The Position

Since 2009, our team has worked steadily to make this dream a reality. We’ve designed and tested many generations of prototype aircraft capable of serving in a network of electric air taxis. We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onward toward certifying the Joby aircraft, scaling our manufacturing, and launching our initial commercial service. Overview The Joby material and Process group is seeking a highly organized and passionate M&P engineer to join our team in Dayton, Ohio, focusing on supporting the production of high-performance aircraft propeller blades. The successful candidate will bring expertise in Resin Transfer Molding and structural bonding to implement manufacturing processes meeting stringent aerospace standards.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree and 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, material science or a relevant discipline
  • In depth understanding of composite parts fabrication and structural bonding
  • Familiarity with ASTM and SACMA test standards
  • Excellent technical writing, computer and presentation skills
  • Understanding of statistical design allowables
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively & communicate effectively

Nice To Haves

  • M.S./Ph.D. in relevant discipline
  • 10+ years of experience in the aerospace industry
  • Hands-on material test laboratory experience
  • Familiarity with FAR Part 23, DOT/FAA/AR-00/47 and CMH-17G
  • Aerospace background in advanced composites and bonded structures

Responsibilities

  • Execute FAA-mandated material qualification test plans
  • Author and maintain materials, process, and test specifications
  • Analyze composite material behaviors and evaluate new processes to optimize and enhance manufacturing throughput, including troubleshooting manufacturing processes to reduce quality non-conformances
  • Optimize out-times, cure cycles, and assembly methods to ensure materials perform reliably in a high-rate production environment.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to conduct non-conformance (MRB) reviews, providing technical disposition for production issues and serve as a liaison with stress and design
  • Lead complex root-cause investigations into material and part failures to prevent recurrence and participate in corrective action processes
  • Work daily in a highly collaborative environment alongside Part Designers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Production Teams to ensure M&P requirements are integrated in the part manufacturing
  • Interface with raw material suppliers to troubleshoot technical issues and evaluate new materials that could enhance throughput
