About The Position

The Senior Staff Accountant will be integral in the day-to-day accounting operations of Discover The Palm Beaches. Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Staff Accountant role will be involved with all aspects of the accounting cycle including reviewing the monthly balance sheet and income statement, bank reconciliations, processing payroll, reviewing invoice and support for County Reimbursement, maintaining the general ledger, support of budget and forecast activities, and helping to provide schedules in connection with the annual audit. This position is responsible for implementing policies and procedures in the finance and administration functional areas, to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting as well as certain office administration and purchasing functions. This position is responsible for helping to maintain internal controls that will ensure that company assets are safeguarded, and that financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies and US GAAP. The role assists in ensuring that accounting activities are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and Company procedures. This position will meet with other departments to review their monthly financials, identify enhanced reporting opportunities, and evaluate ROI on significant projects. This position will represent the Finance Department in all respects when the CFO is out of the office.

Requirements

  • This position requires a 4-year degree in Accounting or Finance and a minimum of 3-5 years of related experience.
  • The candidate must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Must be flexible and willing to accomplish the department’s goals and meet the needs of the internal team.
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Strong technical skills include above average Microsoft Office Suite knowledge with Excel (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables) PDF documents, and expense reporting software.
  • Ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Detail oriented, organized, reliable, and proactive communication to management.
  • Adaptable to changing situations and willingness to learn.
  • Must demonstrate a positive attitude and ability to cooperate with all departments
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-reliant, good problem solving, results oriented.
  • Take pride and ownership in their work; trustworthy and willing to provide management with constructive feedback on any new implementations (system or policy wise).
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines

Nice To Haves

  • Four-year degree from an academic institution in accounting or finance; MBA/CPA or CMA certification strongly preferred.
  • Nonprofit/government accounting knowledge a plus.
  • Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge Software or equivalent large ERP System
  • Experienced in identifying ways to improve procedures and creating efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
  • Monitoring bank activity, reconciling bank accounts monthly and reviewing cash flows.
  • Managing the Expense Reporting system and review of monthly Travel Expense activity packets of the Corporate Credit Cards
  • Reviewing the output of the accounting specialist positions for accuracy and identifying development opportunities.
  • Updating, documenting, or creating policies and procedures for the different accounting tasks as necessary
  • Manages the payroll system and runs the bi-weekly payroll and corresponding reconciliation.
  • Reviewing all expenses to be submitted to the county for reimbursement for compliance.
  • Provides requested information and documents to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Reconciles accounts, prepares journal entries, and closes the monthly books.
  • Creates adjustments and reclasses when coding errors occur or when expenses need to be paid from the reserve account, Reviews current procedures being performed and looks for inefficiencies that exist and apply cutting edge technologies, processes and programs that advance operational effectiveness.
  • Ensures adherence to Palm Beach County Contract including procurement and audit policies.
  • Any other duties that are necessary to support the integrity of Discover The Palm Beaches’ Financial systems.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
