The role We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Senior Staff Accountant to own core accounting operations with a strong emphasis on balance sheet integrity, cash management, and month-end close . This role requires a professional who can independently reconcile complex accounts, manage cash activity, and ensure accurate, timely month-end close and data integrity. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced agency environment with project-based billing, vendor complexity, and tight close timelines. Location: Candidates must be located in Illinois, Texas, Colorado, or Michigan. For individuals based in our Michigan and Illinois locations, this will be a hybrid role, requiring both in-office and remote work. For candidates in Texas and Colorado, this position will be fully remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 6–10+ years of progressive accounting experience (agency or professional services strongly preferred)
  • Demonstrated ownership of full balance sheet reconciliations
  • Strong cash management and bank reconciliation experience
  • Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP and close processes
  • Experience with Advantage highly preferred
  • ERP experience (NetSuite or similar preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation models)
  • Strong judgment, accountability, and ability to work independently
  • This is a true senior accounting position with ownership, judgment, and visibility
  • Ideal for someone who takes pride in clean balance sheets, tight cash controls, and disciplined close execution

Responsibilities

  • Balance Sheet & Close Ownership Own full balance sheet reconciliations monthly, including cash, AR, AP, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and lease accounting
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items with clear documentation and audit trail
  • Prepare and post month-end journal entries and supporting schedules
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes with minimal oversight
  • Cash Management Manage daily cash activity, including bank account monitoring and reconciliations
  • Prepare and maintain short-term cash forecasts
  • Partner with leadership on payment timing and liquidity visibility
  • Ensure accurate recording of wires, ACH activity, credit cards, and expense reimbursement activities
  • Agency & Advantage-Specific Accounting Work within Advantage to ensure accurate vendor postings and expense allocations
  • Reconcile job-related costs and support alignment between Advantage and the general ledger
  • Partner with operations and project teams to resolve discrepancies impacting financial reporting
  • Compliance, Audit & Process Improvement Support audits, reviews, and compliance requests with well-organized documentation
  • Assist with 1099 preparation and year-end reporting
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen controls and efficiency
  • Support ad hoc analyses and special projects as needed
