About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and development of scalable software solutions by collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management and user experience. About the team: The Health & Wellness Clinical Services team is dedicated to safeguarding patient health by ensuring compliance, patient safety, and effective counseling workflows across Walmart and Sam’s Club pharmacies. As a critical pillar of the pharmacy ecosystem, the team empowers pharmacists with the tools, insights, and processes needed to deliver safe, high‑quality clinical care. By focusing on regulatory adherence, clinical decision support, and optimized pharmacist workflows, the team plays a vital role in protecting patients and improving health outcomes. Through close collaboration with pharmacists, clinicians, and technology partners, the Clinical Services team continuously drives innovation that strengthens pharmacy operations and supports millions of patients and associates across the Health & Wellness Pharmacy organization.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience (or equivalent depth), with demonstrated ownership of production systems and delivery.
  • Strong proficiency in C#/.NET (modern language features, async/await, concurrency patterns) and building scalable, maintainable applications.
  • Hands-on experience building rich clients with WPF and MVVM, including reusable UI components and performance tuning for desktop applications.
  • Strong backend/service development experience using ASP.NET Core / Web APIs, service integration patterns, and data access via Entity Framework / EF Core.
  • Experience with SQL & NoSQL datastores, plus containerization and orchestration: Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience building event-driven integration and data communication using Kafka.
  • Cloud experience with Azure, AWS, or GCP, including designing for security, resilience, and cost awareness.
  • Experience implementing telemetry and observability using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenObserve, and ELK to improve monitoring and operational insights.
  • Strong testing discipline with TDD and automated quality practices, including: Unit testing frameworks such as MSTest and NUnit (plus mocking frameworks like Moq/NSubstitute as applicable) Performance testing using JMeter CI tooling such as Jenkins to enforce quality gates and repeatable delivery.
  • Strong product and business acumen—ability to connect engineering outcomes to measurable impact, and solve ambiguous problems with high ownership.
  • Excellent communication skills and a highly collaborative mindset.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and delivery of core capabilities within the Walmart Pharmacy Ecosystem, driving solutions from requirements through production rollout and support.
  • Build and evolve desktop/UI experiences using WPF with MVVM, creating reusable UI components, controls, and client-side libraries with a focus on accessibility, performance, and maintainability.
  • Design and implement service and integration layers using C#/.NET, ASP.NET Core, Entity Framework (EF/EF Core) and (where applicable) WCF, with a clear modernization mindset toward current patterns.
  • Apply clean architecture and SOLID principles to improve modularity and testability; proactively identify and reduce technical debt across legacy and modern code paths.
  • Lead engineering excellence through TDD-first development, thoughtful test design, and automation—ensuring changes are well-covered with unit, integration, and regression tests.
  • Drive reliability and operability improvements by embedding observability (metrics/logs/traces), improving failure handling, and supporting production readiness practices.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering leaders, product managers, design leads, and business stakeholders to shape technical direction, clarify tradeoffs, and deliver a unified approach to engineering.
  • Review code and designs from peers, set quality bars, and mentor engineers through pairing, feedback, and technical guidance.
  • Communicate clearly with cross-functional partners—translating complex technical choices into understandable recommendations and actionable plans.
