WHY BOX NEEDS YOU Box is transforming how enterprises collaborate and manage content in the cloud. While many Box services run on Java and Scala microservices, a large monolithic PHP codebase still implements core business logic. That codebase contains millions of lines, is contributed to by hundreds of engineers, and is deployed to production multiple times per day. It’s the largest-scale service in the company and is relied on by thousands of customers — we need a seasoned senior software engineer to own, enhance, and maintain it. Team mission: Empower innovation and scalability across Box’s ecosystem by developing modern language frameworks and building highly scalable, reliable infrastructure services.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in PHP and at least one modern programming language (e.g. Java, C++, Go, Python, etc).
  • Strong understanding of software design principles and patterns.
  • Solid grasp of at least one modern source code management solution (e.g. Git, SVN, CVS, etc).
  • Interest in CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead significant technology initiatives from inception through successful deployment across multiple architecture layers.
  • Provide production support and participate in the team’s on-call rotation.
  • Build platforms and services that enable application teams to focus on product development.
  • Write clear, detailed technical documentation that conveys architecture and product details for application teams.
  • Provide expert guidance across all architecture levels and mentor other engineers.
  • Participate in and influence domain-wide architectural reviews and decisions.
