Role summary: The Senior Software Engineer will lead the delivery of scoped features and models through collaborative teams, ensuring alignment with platform and business objectives. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable software solutions while integrating AI and machine learning components. The position requires strong technical judgment, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving to meet quality standards and customer needs. The engineer will support lifecycle execution, mentor peers, and contribute to innovation and operational excellence within a dynamic, product-driven environment. About the team: Join the Developer Experience and GenAI Platform team, a group dedicated to advancing developer productivity through innovative platform solutions. This team collaborates closely with engineers and product leaders to design and deliver scalable, user-centric software that integrates cutting-edge AI technologies. Members contribute across the full software development lifecycle, emphasizing quality, performance, and continuous improvement. The team fosters a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and proactive problem-solving, working globally to build impactful developer tools and services that support Walmart’s technology ecosystem and business goals.

Requirements

  • AI: GenAI, LLMs, agentic, and RAG frameworks for designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI systems and scalable intelligent solutions.
  • Backend: Strong in Java, J2EE, Spring, JVM internals, concurrency, multithreading, service oriented architecture, and RESTful web services.
  • Data: Solid fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, SQL, and relational databases including Postgres, SQL Server, and BigQuery.
  • Distributed systems: Experience with Kafka, Elasticsearch, Python, and scalable, high performance distributed application environments.
  • Frontend: Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, ReactJS, React Native, Redux, Webpack, and Node.js.
  • Cloud and system design: Hands on cloud deployment experience building scalable, available production systems for applications and services at scale.
  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate and Innovate: Work in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment, sharing creative ideas and partnering with engineers, designers, and product managers to shape the vision and architecture of our web platforms.
  • End-to-End Development: Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance applications using a modern tech stack, ensuring seamless integration between frontend and backend components.
  • Problem Solving: Conduct root cause analysis on applications to address business questions, identify performance bottlenecks, and uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Engage with engineering teams across geographies to share knowledge, leverage expertise, and contribute to the broader tech community.
