About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will contribute to building and designing reliable, secure, and scalable services that power mission-critical products. You will design, deliver, and maintain APIs and backend systems for internal and external stakeholders using multiple back-end languages and frameworks, deploy cloud-native services across AWS and GCP, develop and maintain complex queries against large datasets, and improve engineering velocity through GitHub and GitHub Actions-based CI/CD pipelines. About the team: The Aspen Back-End team develops and maintains multiple back-end codebases supporting an internal analytics and configuration platform for Vizio's Ad Tech Innovation group. This platform delivers configurable reports, queries, alerts, and audience segmentation while enabling various third-party integrations. The team focuses on scalable, reliable solutions that align with strategic priorities and roadmap milestones. Collaborating across functions, they drive continuous improvement through effective project and stakeholder management, leveraging expertise in cloud-native architecture, DevOps, and software product management to ensure high-quality delivery and operational excellence. What you'll do: Architect, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using Java (Spring Boot) and PHP (Laravel). Design distributed systems and data flows that are scalable, resilient, and observable. Assist in leading technical design reviews and drive implementation of complex features across services. Build and optimize CI/CD workflows in GitHub Actions to improve release quality and speed. Deploy and operate services in AWS and GCP, including monitoring, logging, and incident response. Partner with Product, QA, and Frontend teams to define technical requirements and delivery plans. Improve code quality through testing strategy, code reviews, and engineering standards. Mentor and collaborate with engineers through pairing, design feedback, and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • Professional software engineering experience, with strong backend focus.
  • Experience with relational databases, schema design, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building and debugging complex queries against large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design, authentication/authorization, and service security best practices.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably in GCP and/or AWS.
  • Experience with Java Spring and/or Laravel PHP strongly preferred.
  • Strong testing practices (unit, integration, and end-to-end) and operational troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead cross-functional technical initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
