About The Position

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions that align with business objectives and technical requirements. This role involves analyzing requirements, creating detailed designs, writing maintainable code, and ensuring high-quality testing and deployment. You will collaborate across teams to address risks, optimize performance, and implement continuous integration and delivery practices. Your expertise in software architecture, coding standards, and emerging technologies will drive innovation and operational excellence within an agile environment, supporting Walmart’s commitment to reliable and efficient technology solutions. The UPP Payments team develops and maintains a highly scalable, fault-tolerant distributed payments platform that supports mission-critical transaction processing at enterprise scale. The team operates at the intersection of cloud-native architecture and regulated payment systems, addressing challenges in resiliency, traffic routing, certification, and observability. Engineers design distributed services, implement intelligent routing and fallback mechanisms, and ensure platform stability during peak volumes and failure scenarios. Emphasizing technical ownership, engineering rigor, and operational excellence, the team fosters leadership growth as the platform expands across markets.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software engineering with strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming.
  • Demonstrated expertise in code review, debugging, and delivering scalable, maintainable solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and distributed systems to support high availability and performance.
  • Proven ability to analyze requirements, create detailed designs, and implement solutions within agile development frameworks.
  • Skilled in continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices, including automation and telemetry implementation.
  • Strong technical acumen with knowledge of testing methodologies and defect management to ensure software quality.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining Walmart to continue creating accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and scope software requirements, including functional and non-functional aspects, to align with business objectives.
  • Design scalable, maintainable software components using established architecture and design patterns.
  • Develop, review, and maintain high-quality code adhering to coding standards and security policies.
  • Implement automated testing and continuous integration to ensure software reliability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve defects, conducting root cause analysis and regression testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver iterative product enhancements and support deployment processes.
  • Monitor application performance and implement telemetry for proactive issue detection and resolution.
