About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will lead the design, development, and delivery of scalable software solutions aligned with business objectives. This role involves analyzing requirements, creating detailed designs, coding maintainable components, and ensuring quality through rigorous testing and debugging. The position requires expertise in software architecture, continuous integration, and deployment practices, with a focus on performance, security, and reliability. The engineer will collaborate cross-functionally to address technical challenges, support product strategy, and drive innovation while adhering to company standards and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. The UPP Payments team builds and maintains a scalable, fault-tolerant distributed payments platform supporting critical transaction processing at enterprise scale. Operating at the intersection of cloud-native architecture and regulated payment systems, the team addresses challenges in resiliency, traffic routing, certification, and observability. Engineers design distributed services, implement intelligent routing and fallback mechanisms, and ensure platform stability during peak loads and failure scenarios. The team emphasizes technical ownership, engineering rigor, and operational excellence, fostering leadership development as the platform expands across markets.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in software architecture, distributed systems, and scalable design patterns.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming and coding standards across multiple languages such as JavaScript and Python.
  • Strong knowledge of agile methodologies, including user story creation, requirement scoping, and iterative development.
  • Expertise in debugging, code review, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Ability to design and implement secure, maintainable, and high-availability software components.
  • Familiarity with telemetry, defect management, and performance monitoring tools.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and deliver quality software solutions aligned with business objectives.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area and 1 year's experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
  • Knowledge of accessibility best practices and joining us as we continue to create accessible products and services following Walmart’s accessibility standards and guidelines for supporting an inclusive culture.
