This role is part of Enterprise Technology (ET), where we're developing the digital infrastructure needed to build the road to space, with an emphasis on digital capabilities required to advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology is the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology and business strategies. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Software Development Manager to lead Blue Origin's Scheduling and Planning Technology team. This leader will manage a team of skilled software developers and drive them to execute an ambitious roadmap. The position is a part of the Enterprise Technology (ET) organization, where we develop the digital infrastructure required to build the road to space and advance Blue Origin's mission. Enterprise Technology serves as the center of excellence for digital technology at Blue Origin, providing oversight and governance to align technology with business strategies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
- Proven track record of successfully leading software development projects from inception to delivery.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and development methodologies.
- Experience in distributed backend systems and cloud-based environments, such as AWS.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for solving complex technical challenges.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across broad range of teams.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A passion for space exploration and a commitment to Blue Origin's mission.
- Willingness to travel up to 15% of the time.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with manufacturing, especially scheduling, planning or execution.
- Experience in the aerospace or defense industry.
- Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements in aerospace.
Responsibilities
- Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of software engineers, while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
- Regularly presenting strategic initiatives to VPs and other executives.
- Collaborating extensively with Senior and Principal engineers to identify optimal technical architectures.
- Driving their team's operational excellence and delivering industry-leading, high-quality technical solutions.
- Overseeing the design, implementation and launch of manufacturing, scheduling, planning and execution software.
- Owning critical workstreams on complex, years-long projects.
- Optimizing software development processes to enhance productivity and quality.
