Senior Software Development Engineer Expedia Technology teams partner with our Product teams to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. Join Expedia’s Insurance and Assurance team, where we empower travelers with peace of mind through purpose-built insurance products. We're seeking a high performing and influential individual contributor who leads by example while continuing to mentor junior engineers, interfaces consistently with tech leadership in the local organization, leads complex and vaguely-defined projects, and stretches into team leadership skills based on current projects.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software development.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field or equivalent related professional experience.
• Experience leading the end-to-end technical design and delivery of multiple multi-quarter projects.
• Deep expertise in multiple technologies or languages, with the ability to justify technical decisions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience in software development.
• Demonstrated leadership through formal mentorship, community contributions (e.g., blog posts, open source, tech talks), and cross-team collaboration.
• Skilled in designing and guiding testable, observable, and high-quality systems.
• Experience establishing operational excellence metrics at the team level.
• A strong understanding of business needs, with a track record of identifying and solving team-level technical and organizational challenges

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across teams and lead communities of practice to foster shared learning and cross-functional alignment.
• Guide junior engineers and occasionally step into leadership roles, supporting team growth and continuity.
• Design, test, and maintain integrated software solutions that align with business goals and technical best practices.
• Advocate for software design excellence, including the use of architectural patterns, frameworks, and operational standards like testing and SLAs.
• Analyze and improve systems holistically, applying systems thinking to optimize processes, technology, and team structures.
• Communicate complex project updates and technical insights to leadership, ensuring transparency and thorough documentation.
