Responsibilities Supervises and directs the work of Imaging Scientists, Imaging Technologists, and fellows. Advises the IRF-Frederick Director about imaging modalities to achieve relevant study endpoints in animal studies using novel, emerging or highly pathogenic viruses. Makes timely and relevant recommendations about imaging equipment, modalities, and software. Designs and oversees execution of multiple complex imaging animal studies that use imaging as an endpoint. Interacts with other IRF-Frederick scientific and administrative sections to provide expertise in study design, biological endpoints, data analysis, and interpretation related to animal imaging studies. Advises the IRF-Frederick Director, Division of Intramural Research Director, and the Director of CIDI (NIH Center for Infectious Disease Imaging) and other NIAID and NIH sections as needed on translation of animal imaging studies to clinical studies, imaging hardware/software upgrades, maintenance, and technological advances. Drafts and submits peer reviewed publications, preferably in high impact journals, designs for animal imaging studies and other relevant documents. Presents scientific data and methodology to internal and extramural audiences including at national and international scientific meetings. Prepares email communications of important findings. May participate in the internal and external scientific peer review process including but not limited to evaluation of publications, grants, or contract applications. May serve on internal and external committees based on Government direction. Stays current on the latest developments in the field of medical imaging. Mentors scientific staff and fellows with a focus on imaging developments. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of related experience.
  • Imaging experience in maximum containment is strongly desired.
  • Previous recent BSL-4 experience preferred.
