About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Structural Biologist to join the Odyssey team at our site in Boston where you will be a key contributor to the structural enablement of pipeline discovery projects. You will produce quality proteins in-house and with external partners in support of biophysical and structural analyses as well as assay development. You will employ cutting-edge structural techniques such as cryo-EM and X-ray crystallography in a cost-effective, efficient manner. You will use your expertise to probe mechanisms of action and structural aspects of protein-protein and protein-ligand interactions, and to guide protein therapeutic design. You will work within both small-molecule and protein therapeutic project teams. In this primarily lab-based role, you will be a key contributor to the application of internal and external resources and capabilities necessary to drive structural biology, biophysics, and assay development efforts. As a critical member of the Odyssey team, you will be a key voice in the evolution of Odyssey’s science and platforms, offering opportunity for growth and impact. Odyssey prides itself as an organization with an exceptionally talented team with a broad range of skills. Together with your colleagues, you will help shape the Odyssey culture, strategic direction, and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Outstanding collaboration skills
  • Doctoral degree with a focus on structural biology, with demonstrated ability to employ cryo-EM or X-ray crystallography to visualize proteins and their complexes. Expertise with both techniques is preferred.
  • Skilled in recombinant protein design, prokaryotic and eukaryotic protein expression, and protein purification for structural biology needs
  • Minimum 5 years post-PhD research experience
  • Ability to scientifically challenge others in a constructive manner
  • Record of innovative thinking to propose and champion new ideas and solve problems
  • Record of accomplishment as demonstrated by a strong record of publications and presentations in the application of construct design, protein production, and structural biology techniques
  • Strong written and oral communication skills necessary to clearly deliver scientific results in a timely manner
  • Excellent time management skills with the proven ability to manage and prioritize across multiple projects
  • Ability to navigate and succeed in a fast-paced, interactive, and collaborative work environment

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of medicinal chemistry, molecular and cell biology, biophysics, biochemistry, and assay development desired
  • Experience working with structural biology CROs, from construct design to expression to structure solution desirable
  • A passion and sense of urgency for delivering structural insights that make a meaningful impact on discovery programs

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to internal and external efforts to ensure efficient protein design, protein expression and purification, sample preparation for structural studies, data collection, structure determination, and communication of high-quality structural information to project teams
  • Contribute and collaborate on the design and enablement of structural biology strategies across a portfolio of small-molecule and protein therapeutic programs
  • Collaborate with computational and medicinal chemists on structure-guided designs and actively participate in driving optimization of biologics and small-molecule chemical matter
  • Partner with colleagues in biochemistry and biophysics, molecular and cell biology, and other functional groups to drive towards new medicines
  • Participate in the scientific, technical, and operational aspects of structural biology for drug discovery programs
