About The Position

The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Civil Engineer. This position is accountable for the supervision of all field activities involved in the construction of one highly complex project or multiple related projects in a highway district. Essential Functions Provides adequate engineering supervision to contractors involved in highly complex construction projects. Provides engineering solutions to design problems and unique conditions involving new constructiontechniques. Maintains adequate project records and coordinates multi-job projects so that they adhere to schedules. Resolves complaints from private citizens and local government agencies regarding project inconveniences. Ensures proper safety usage and traffic control by contractors. Provides and maintains a safe work environment for subordinate personnel. Trains, motivates, and evaluates subordinate personnel. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.  Performs all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois.
  • Four years of experience in civil engineering.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires districtwide travel.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
