About The Position

The University of Pikeville is seeking applications for the position of Senior Resident Assistant (SRA). The Senior Resident Assistant provides peer leadership within the residence halls and supports the mission of the Office of Residence Life by assisting in the development of a safe, inclusive, and engaged residential community that contributes to the academic and personal success of residents. Senior Resident Assistants serve as experienced student leaders who support Resident Assistants, assist with operational functions, and model professionalism and accountability.

Requirements

  • At least two (2) full semesters of experience as a Resident Assistant
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Personal qualities including maturity, motivation, initiative, and responsibility
  • Clear student conduct record at UPIKE
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, maintained throughout employment

Responsibilities

  • Community Development
  • Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive living environment within assigned residential areas.
  • Support and mentor Resident Assistants in community-building efforts and program implementation.
  • Assist with planning, coordinating, and assessing community engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as a visible and approachable presence within the residence halls.
  • Assist with communication of community standards, expectations, and important information to residents.
  • Resident Relationships
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with residents and staff.
  • Demonstrate awareness of resident needs, adjustment concerns, and behavioral patterns.
  • Support Resident Assistants in addressing roommate conflicts and resident concerns, referring cases to professional staff as appropriate.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and professional relationships with residents.
  • Leadership and Staff Support
  • Serve as a role model and peer leader for Resident Assistants.
  • Provide guidance, informal mentoring, and support to Resident Assistants as directed by professional staff.
  • Assist with staff coverage, coordination, and communication as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between Resident Assistants and professional Residence Life staff when appropriate.
  • Contribute to a collaborative staff environment through teamwork and constructive feedback.
  • Duty
  • Complete duty responsibilities as assigned to support the safety and security of the residential community.
  • Assist with emergency response and crisis situations under the direction of professional staff.
  • Be available for additional duty during emergency situations, major campus events, or as operational needs require.
  • Policy Enforcement and Safety
  • Abide by and assist in the enforcement of Residence Life policies and the UPIKE Student Handbook.
  • Address policy concerns in a consistent, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Support Resident Assistants in documentation and follow-up related to policy incidents.
  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Housing and Operations
  • Assist with hall opening and closing processes, including August, January, December, and May operations.
  • Support room readiness, key distribution, and occupancy management as directed.
  • Assist with Room Condition Reports (RCRs), health and safety inspections, and damage reporting.
  • Support administrative coordination related to move-in, move-out, and extended stay periods.
  • Administrative Duties
  • Assist with documentation, reports, and operational tasks as assigned by professional staff.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions.
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors and respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a reliable resource for staff coordination and information sharing.
  • Ethics
  • Serve as a role model and representative of the University of Pikeville both on and off campus.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and accountability at all times.
  • Uphold ethical standards related to confidentiality, communication, and leadership conduct.
