Join our team and discover why we are a top veteran employer and Certified Great Place to Work™ ASRC Federal Data Solutions is looking for a Senior Research Scientist to work with curation and software engineering staff in the specification, design, implementation, and operational management of tools that integrate, search, and display toxicology data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in toxicology, chemistry, pharmacology or related field OR relative experience in lieu of degree
  • Strong written and oral English communication skills
  • High computer proficiency, including word processing and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to understand scientific literature, experimental procedures and their limitations, and current needs of the research community
  • Impeccable attention to detail and critical thinking skills
  • Self-starter, able to work independently, and as part of a highly collaborative team
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously

Nice To Haves

  • Background in toxicology or related scientific disciplines (toxicogenomics, immunology, chemistry, pre-clinical research) with ability to understand experimental design and data interpretation
  • Experience with relational databases (Oracle SQL), data integration tools (Knime, Tableau, Jupyter Notebooks), and statistics preferable
  • Knowledge of GLP regulations and proficiency with Provantis

Responsibilities

  • Define and collaborate on novel computational approaches and tools as required by research goals
  • Build a knowledgebase to understand cross talk between databases, map similar and dissimilar information in disparate databases and data feeds, document and understand business logic for how a column may be used or is populated
  • Develop new workflows to clean, reformat, integrate, and analyze data
  • Evaluate tools for accuracy and adequacy in displaying data
  • Work with users to answer questions about the contents of the database and help with submission of information using advanced Excel functions, Oracle SQL queries, Knime, Tableau, and python Jupyter Notebooks
  • Work within teams or independently to drive project deadlines
  • Write clear and concise project documentation
  • Maintain clear lines of communication with clients and stakeholders
  • Participate in presentations and demonstrations of the database at conferences or other institutions
