Position Information The Senior Research Scientist, under general supervision, designs, performs, and analyzes experiments. Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results.

Requirements

  • PhD in a related field.
  • Eight years of related experience in a specialized and relevant field of research.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.

  • Must be able to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary collaborative team.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

  • Use on-farm data from across the U.S. to develop yield stability zones and evaluate on-farm profitability within those zones.
  • Advance precision nitrogen-use-efficiency and phosphorus-use-efficiency measurements in a geospatially explicit context on farms from across the U.S.
  • Develop methodologies to evaluate precision agriculture technologies (e.g., precision orientation planting, unmanned technologies, digital soil nutrient sensing, and precision nutrient application) across scales (plot to whole farm) to advance the adoption of precision conservation.
  • Designs, performs, and analyzes experiments consistent with project objectives.
  • Conducts independent research aligned with the TAMUS member’s mission.
  • Keeps detailed records of procedures and data.
  • Provides leadership.
  • Mentors students on analyzing and preparing data results
  • Train members of the laboratory.
  • Validates strategic decision-aid models.
  • Presents research results.
  • Develops procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analyses.
  • Identifies, assimilates, and synthesizes data needed for computer models and manages databases relating to statistical and related software.
  • Maintains expertise with the latest hardware and software technologies for statistical and numerical data analyses.
  • Keeps up-to-date on scientific research via reading of literature, etc.
  • Attends scientific meetings and seminars for research enhancement.
  • Prepares data for publication and presentation.
  • Writes grants and proposals to acquire external funding.
  • Coordinates laboratory activities.
  • Maintains laboratory instrumentation and follows applicable safety standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
