About The Position

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD) works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and support for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children ages 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. This is a responsible professional nursing supervisor position involved in planning, organizing, supervising, assisting and providing nursing care at a state facility for persons with developmental disabilities.

Requirements

  • Must have a current Registered Nurse License
  • Must be willing to perform essential services before, during, and after an emergency.
  • Must be willing to work beyond the normal work schedule to maintain minimum coverage levels and meet the needs of the Agency.
  • Must be able to perform lifesaving skills when necessary
  • Must be able to work after hours and on weekends.
  • Must maintain certification in Prevention and Safety Strategies (PASS), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Direct Care In-Service.
  • Must complete annual health screening.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years working as a professional nurse.
  • Knowledge and experience with federal regulations.
  • Experience passing medication.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight, development and implementation of the appropriate sections of the medical/nursing care plan developed with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Maintain schedule to ensure adequate coverage as per nursing procedures and needs of residents.
  • Supervise the completion of nursing assessments, nursing progress notes, individual treatment, and care plans in accordance with standards.
  • Ongoing communication with staff regarding progress, and changes in operating procedures, including formal staff meetings at least monthly.
  • Must observe and meet with direct reports during evenings, early mornings, weekends, etc. on occasion if necessary.
  • Oversee and maintains activities to maintain competency of Nursing and Certified Nursing Assistant skills.
  • Assists with preparation of Agency for Health Care Administration corrective action plans and ensures implementation of plan.
  • Monitor the delivery of nursing care in terms of established standards through rounds and inspections, reviewing communication records and charts.
  • Monitor equipment and supply usage and assures required equipment and supplies necessary for performing nursing procedures and activities are available, functioning efficiently and in good repair.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of nursing in-service training.
  • Provide direct nursing care, including medication administration as directed by Executive Nursing Director.
  • Provide on-call services on a rotation basis and direct nursing duties on all shifts if necessary.
  • Make daily rounds to provide nursing supervision to ensure quality nursing services.
  • Provide incident reporting and management of workplace incidents, accidents, or injuries as they occur.
  • Document, treatment, referral, and follow-up to provide accurate analysis, reporting, and tracking of all organization incidents involving residents.
  • Participate in nursing committees as assigned.
  • Participate in center-wide committees as a representative of the Nursing Department.
  • Oversee activities designed to maintain competency of direct care skills regarding delegated nursing functions.
  • Draft Agency for Health Care and Administration corrective action plans and ensure implementation.
  • Serve as an interdisciplinary team member as necessary.
  • Ensure nursing practice follows state and federal licensure requirements, assisting with development and implementation of operating procedures pertaining to nursing practice.
  • Attend in-service training and participate in continuing education programs to maintain and improve professional and supervisory skills.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
