Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Nursing or a related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related occupation.
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact), CGFNS, NCLEX-RN, or a temporary permit to perform nursing duties under supervision while awaiting license issuance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and communicate with their family members as needed.
  • Observe, assess, plan, intervene and evaluate outcomes and document all aspects of patient care.
  • Interpret and evaluate patient response to established plans of care.
  • Coordinate scheduling within assigned areas.
  • Provide primary management for service area during assigned shift in a supportive and clear supervisory manner.
  • Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff.
  • Provide direction and coordination of staffing and patient care activities on assigned units in a consultative manner with nurse administrators and staff nurses by addressing performance problems promptly and keeping accurate documentation of interventions.
  • Collaborate with Nurse Coordinator, other charge nurses, Psychologists, Physicians and Mental Health Supervisor to ensure 24-hour continuity of care.
  • Develop and present information for in-service training or staff development.
  • May travel to other state hospitals or facilities on an as-needed basis, approximately 10% of the time. No fixed itinerary.
