About The Position

This position falls under the PARCS department, in the Community Services division. The Community Services division offers relevant programming for all ages in the community by connecting residents with activities, resources, and community events. Under moderate supervision, the Sr. Recreation Program Leader provides direction, organizes, and conducts a variety of recreational and community service programs, including, but not limited to, after-school programming, day camps, youth programs, youth activities, and special events, under the guidance of the coordinator. Sr. Program Leaders are expected to work both independently and with a team, and exercise judgment and initiative.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, promotion, and implementation of diversified community service programs for all ages; evaluate program effectiveness; and recommend changes to leadership
  • Assist in, assigning tasks to staff and volunteers; may plan, assign, train, direct, and monitor staff duties.
  • Assist in scheduling, operation, set-up, and daily maintenance of assigned programs.
  • Adhere to and enforce safety rules and regulations and maintain orderly participant conduct at various events and/or programs.
  • Process class and program registrations using computer software.
  • Provide minor first aid to program participants/spectators and/or perform related first aid/ emergency techniques.
  • Provide support duties for child development; assist children in activities, nutrition and personal care needs; serve meals and snacks based on established guidelines; perform clean-up and food storage duties.
  • Prepares instructional crafts and other materials, participates in, and encourages play activities with other children, and may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups
  • Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.
  • Participates in and/or leads staff meetings, family conferences, and other special meetings; observes and monitors family conditions and notifies coordinator/supervisor of concerns as appropriate.
  • Maintains required and appropriate documentation, including observation notes, logs, and other records.
  • Aids in training and coaching of Recreation Program Leaders and works closely with the coordinator to evaluate performance
  • Plans for and maintains program supplies and materials; monitors required resources and initiates purchases of supplies and equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
