As a Senior Radiation Protection Technician, you will support coverage of radiological work at our Richland, WA site. Work includes surveillance of radiological work areas, radioactive material management, data/records management, radiological sample collection/analysis, air monitoring and sampling. You will report to the Manager of Decommissioning Projects. This is an anchor position that is required on site 5 days per week.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Associates degree preferred.
  • Ability to obtain unescorted access at nuclear facilities
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the year

Responsibilities

  • Perform shipping and receiving hazardous materials, including Class 7 Radioactive material.
  • Conducting surveys of radioactive materials, equipment, and personnel using handheld instruments.
  • Collection and analysis of environmental soil, air, and effluent samples.
  • Calibration and utilization of handheld radiation detecting instruments. (GM, Ion Chamber, Scintillation, etc.)
  • Calibration and utilization of stationary equipment such as HPGe gamma spectrometers, alpha/beta gas proportionalcounters, and personnel contamination monitors.
  • Issuing personnel dosimeters and maintaining a record of dose through PADS and Sentinel, issuing NRC equivalentdose forms, processing and configuring electronic dosimeters/dosimeters of legal record.
  • Evaluation and creation of radiation work permits, giving pre-job briefs and job coverage, adherence to ALARAprinciples.
  • Maintenance of the site’s radioactive materials inventory in accordance with the site’s license, including radioactivesources.
  • Writing, reviewing, and adhering to all site radiation protection, safety, and operational procedures.
  • Knowledge of company, state, federal, and international radiation safety compliance regulations.
  • Use of respiratory protection equipment, and all other personnel protection equipment including fall protection.
  • Operation of chemical decontamination both government and commercial nuclear sites.
