About The Position
As a Senior Propulsion Component Engineer (Electromechanical) at Impulse, you will own all aspects of component design from concept to product realization, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that strives to make a high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in high power density motor and/or actuator design
- A strong understanding of electromechanical component design including: force/torque margin determination, materials and motor selection, wear, electronics, motor control and software/firmware interfaces.
- Hands-on experience working with fluid, electrical and mechanical systems
- Demonstrated proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
- Demonstrated ability in requirements definition, conceptual design, procurement, fabrication, assembly and testing of hardware
Nice To Haves
- Experience designing and operating high reliability, high performance hardware
- Experience with high-power density and vacuum-rated components
- Experience in a startup or agile development environment
- Strong project management skills and effective communication of technical concepts across multi-disciplinary teams
- Flexible schedule and willing to travel as needed
Responsibilities
- Design propulsion system electromechanical components including linear and rotary actuators and motors
- Perform integrated system trades on power systems, actuation rates, and force margins to arrive at optimal solution for flight vehicle
- Own all aspects of component design from initial concepts to product realization
- Generate detailed CAD models and manufacturing drawings
- Perform fluid, thermal, and structural analysis as required
- Establish assembly procedures and work hands-on with technicians to refine this process
- Define and support rigorous component development and qualification testing
- Resolve technical issues with innovative and resourceful solutions
