Prepares scopes of work, completes cost estimates, and coordinates fieldwork in support of environmental investigations. Completes project data analysis and prepares project reports. Conducts research, field inspections and report preparation to support the completion of Phase II environmental assessments, remediation projects, and other related projects. We are looking to hire a mid-level professional with 5+ years of experience to work with the Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation Group to provide quality services to our clients. In addition to field work, this individual will mentor and train junior staff. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to see, and gain experience in, all aspects of a full-service environmental group including all technical aspects of field work, proposal preparation, phase-level management, subcontractor oversight and reporting

Requirements

BS in Geology, Environmental Science/Engineering, or related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology or related field. Proficiency in use of current BL software platforms of CADD, Word and Excel.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, ordinances, application forms, technical plans, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to staff and superiors, clients, regulatory agency staff and outside technical personnel.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate proportions, interpolations, percentages, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of algebra and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Ability to perform tasks in a logical, organized manner and sequence.
Working toward Professional Geologist or Licensed Professional Engineer Certification, if applicable
Ability to read and interpret documents such as regulations, ordinances, application forms, technical plans, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively to staff and superiors, clients, regulatory agency staff and outside technical personnel.
BS Degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Engineering, or related scientific or technical field.
5+ years of experience in conducting environmental site assessment investigations.
Experience in field sampling of environmental media (soil, water, air, waste).
Strong knowledge of Connecticut and Federal environmental regulations, including the CT RSRs, TSCA, SCGD, and Transfer Act, and pending changes/updates.
Experience with Phase/Task level management of Phase I,II,III ESA, Remedial Planning, and Remediation, including scheduling, budget tracking, and coordination with subcontractors, client representatives, and stakeholders.
Strong technical report writing skills with ability to draw conclusions and recommendations for next steps in achieving applicable site objectives and milestones.
Ability to draft proposals that include technical scope and fees.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to access remote locations and sites for sampling.
Ability to lift/carry field equipment up to 50 pounds.
Flexibility to travel, when needed, to support regional office objectives and project needs.

Nice To Haves

Working knowledge of the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York environmental programs preferred.
Familiarity in AutoCad and/or GIS preferred.
OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

The implementation of project scopes of work related to environmental investigations. These scopes may include soil investigations, groundwater investigations, soil vapor surveys, remediation related activities, remediation system monitoring and maintenance. The Senior Project Scientist I is expected to complete and price the scope of work for each project and coordinate drilling, laboratory and any subcontractors required for a given project.
The Senior Project Scientist is expected to independently complete data analysis, discuss the implications with the Project Manager, and independently prepare the project report. Report review will be completed by the Project Manager. The Senior Project Scientist I may coordinate tasks associated with completeing environmental site assessment field work and reporting.
Detailed knowledge of all applicable environmental regulations for jurisdiction project is situated in, knowledge of site geology, soils, and hydrogeology.
Knowledge of applicable ASTM Standards for transaction screens, Phase I assessments, and Phase II investigations. Thorough understanding of regulatory programs in the jurisdiction the site is located in including guidance documents, clean-up programs, Underground Storage Tank (UST) programs, and remediation standards.
Understanding of regulatory requirements and application during data analysis in evaluating complilance.
Knowledge of bidding process, ability to negotiate subcontractor contracts and work scopes, understanding and development of project specifications.
Complete preparation of project report under the supervision of Project Manager.
Fieldwork, including inspection and daily reports, completed in conformity with client requirements and contract scope and normal environmental standards under direction of Project Manager.
Frequent travel to other company offices or project sites to fulfill workload demands may be necessary.
Simple to moderately advanced communication skills including phone/e-mail to acquire project-related information and data. Develop skills necessary to independently interface with clients, regulators and to scope projects and prepare complex cost proposals.
Provide positive, encouraging environment consistent with employee ownership
Due diligence tasks including Phase Is, site review and opinion letters, property condition assessments, and desktop/regulatory file/database reviews
Phase II/III field work site investigation
Field supervision and sampling during remediation including excavation, system installation, UST removals, subsurface injections, and operations & maintenance.
Supervision of drilling subcontractors and subcontractor oversight.
Log soil borings, well installation, soil and groundwater sample collection.
Field documentation, analysis of environmental data, technical report writing.
Assistance with Connecticut Transfer Act reporting and filings.
Management of field health and safety
