About The Position
STV’s Transit Vehicle Group is seeking a Senior Project Manager in the New York area to support major transit agencies in the procurement, delivery, and lifecycle support of next-generation rail vehicles. This role sits within STV’s Centers of Excellence and serves as a senior, client-facing leader on complex vehicle programs. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with passenger rail vehicles and proven success leading large, multi-disciplinary programs, acting as a trusted advisor to clients while coordinating technical, contractual, and project management efforts across stakeholders.
Requirements
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong emphasis on collaboration with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Solid understanding of passenger rail vehicles and major vehicle subsystems.
- Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited four-year program in engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to support a wide range of project management and technical activities.
- Ability to work on fast-paced, large, multi-disciplinary rail projects requiring creative thinking and innovative problem-solving.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%, primarily for short-duration or same-day client site visits.
- Demonstrated ability to meet client needs and operate independently with minimal supervision.
- Minimum of 20 years of progressive industry experience.
- At least 8 years of recent experience in a project management role supporting a transit or passenger rail agency, rail vehicle manufacturer, or major vehicle subsystem supplier.
- Proven track record managing complex, high-visibility rail vehicle programs

- Engineering background and hands-on engineering experience are desirable but not required.
Responsibilities
- Lead key client relationships and manage day-to-day project activities related to the procurement of rail vehicle fleets.
- Coordinate internal resources to ensure timely, high-quality, and cost-effective execution of project tasks.
- Manage project scope, schedule, and budget in accordance with STV and client requirements.
- Prepare internal and external project correspondence and documentation.
- Track open action items, assign tasks to team members, monitor progress, and participate in client and project team meetings.
- Develop, maintain, and update project schedules, logs, reports, and tracking tools.
- Identify, document, and monitor project risks and issues, including mitigation strategies.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff, clients, contractors, and other external stakeholders.
- Maintain required project management records in compliance with STV and client standards.
- Identify efficiencies and recommend process improvements to enhance value and reduce costs.
- Participate in client, manufacturer, and contractor site visits as required.
