About The Position

The Senior Project Manager for DSV Contract Logistics will be responsible to plan, budget, oversee, and document all aspects of projects related to new business implementation and other existing business initiatives within the Solutions organization, focused on warehousing and distribution centers. This Project Manager will work closely with the client and DSV leadership to ensure that each project is on schedule, within scope, and on budget. Critical to success of the Project Manager is detailed planning, proactive communication, and persistent monitoring of the execution of deliverables under the responsibility of all project resources to include internal functional area owners, the client, and external contractors.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree is basic requirement (Management, Engineering, Operations Preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of Project Management experience
  • Minimum of 10 years’ Logistics/Warehousing Industry experience
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project & Visio
  • English (reading, writing, verbal), Spanish a plus
  • Interpersonal communication and language skills (e.g., listening to others, speaking to others, reading, writing).
  • Communication with all levels of business from floor staff to executives, to include facilitation of meetings and/or workshops.
  • Good mathematical skills
  • E-commerce experience including starting up small to large volume solutions
  • Must be able to work in unregulated temperatures within the warehouse during the warmer and colder months can range from mild to moderate.
  • Work overtime as dictated by business whether mandatory or voluntary.
  • Other duties as assigned by management to support special projects, implementations, process improvements, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • AutoCAD is a plus
  • Warehouse Management System(s)
  • PMP or other formal project management training
  • Experience in 3PL environment (Engineering and/or Management)
  • Experience in warehouse automation applications (Pick to Light, Automated Sortation, Voice Pick, conveyor design, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Clear understanding of all phases of the project implementation schedule, to include the core deliverables for each functional area and the timing of the same.
  • Operate the project within the parameters of the DSV CL Project Approach methodology and Group PMO governance.
  • Facilitate DSV Quality Planning sessions with the client as the cornerstone for project scoping and execution.
  • Create a detailed task list (Project Schedule) with milestones and critical path tasks to ensure no deliverables or dependencies are overlooked, to include both internal tasks and those of the client and contractors.
  • Communicate the Project Scope and Schedule to all project resources and stakeholders, ensuring alignment and agreement.
  • Hold team members, contractors, et al. accountable to completion of deliverables pursuant to the task list and dates.
  • Manage project budget, scope, and timeline through proactive and effective communication including change control with appropriate approval.
  • Lead regular status meetings with the project team to capture updates, next steps, and risks/mitigation. Facilitate small group breakouts for topics requiring more detailed discussion.
  • Escalate issues/risks appropriately to Manager and/or Project Board
  • Lead Project Board updates covering executive level status, budget, and risks.
  • Plan and effectively manage transition from project execution to stable operations.
  • Assist with drafting MS Project files tailored for RFP responses.
  • Manage and/or work to accomplish internal initiatives aimed at department process and toolset improvement.
  • Build comprehensive project planning with clear tasks, due dates and named owners. No planning gaps.
  • Constantly working to anticipate risks and proactively build mitigation plans with all relevant functions. Follow through on results.
  • Deliverables - ensure that each owner has a clear understanding of what they must deliver.
  • Drive - drive team ownership / high energy ‘whatever it takes’ culture. The Team owns the outcome – not just their specific task.
  • Verify work in progress is being done correctly and confirming that it is done at a high-quality level. Not administratively asking if it’s done and checking a task list.
  • Pro-active regular follow up on all open items. Checking progress throughout.
  • Whatever it takes attitude. Willing to step in and do the work when it is needed to meet a deadline.
  • Push the business – escalate & pull in support before it is a crisis.
  • Excellent Communication – knowing how to communicate to the customer (clear, concise, factual, need to know information, no use of “gray” words (i.e. “I think…”, “Not sure…”, “Seems to be”).
  • Knowing when to pull the team together at frequent intervals during critical times of the project. Not remaining passive with 1x/week touchpoints regardless of project status or phase of project.
  • Knowing what success means and driving functional workstreams to meet it (i.e., HR staff targets and status accountability to meet volume needs versus accepting whatever HR states as progress)
  • Ability to keep the team aligned and focused on the proper sequence of priorities and needed timing for completion.
  • Clearly defined, understood and consistent use of red, yellow, green status.
